Recently I received the great honor of being selected as one of the artists to appear in the From the Pros section in the spring 2016 issue of Somerset Apprentice magazine.
When the editor requested that I be included in the issue, I had to pinch myself because it wasn’t that long ago that I purchased my first issue of this publication, back in spring 2010. At that time I was going through a very difficult period, having just learned I’d be losing my job within a few short months. I hadn’t been able to find a new position, and the stress was leading to a lot of emotional and physical pain.
I’d been a longtime scrapbooker, but during a visit to the local bookstore I encountered the Stampington & Company magazines for the first time, and decided that I wanted to learn how to create mixed-media art. My transition began with Apprentice, which is a wonderful primer designed to teach many of the basic skills. The first project I tried was a complete and utter failure, but I didn’t get discouraged. Over the next six years I kept trying and kept creating–and my life has never been the same. The gift of art is a blessing that I will never take for granted, as it’s taught me that no matter what happens to me in my life, good or bad, I will always have my art and my creativity.
